Violin, Viola & Cello Lessons · West St. Paul
String lessons
String lessons
for every level.
One-on-one instruction for violin, viola, and cello. From foundational bowing and posture to advanced repertoire and performance preparation.
What we cover
Everything a string player needs
Bowing technique
The bow arm is the voice of a string player. We develop a smooth, controlled bow stroke with proper weight, speed, and contact point from the very beginning.
Left hand & intonation
Finger placement, shifting, vibrato, and the ear training required to play consistently in tune — the lifelong work of every string player.
Music reading
Reading standard notation in the correct clef for your instrument, understanding rhythmic values, and navigating the page in ensemble and solo settings.
Ear training
String instruments have no frets. Training your ear to hear and correct pitch is built into every lesson from the first note onward.
Repertoire
Classical, folk, Celtic, and contemporary styles. We work through real pieces that develop technique and keep playing rewarding.
Posture & setup
Proper instrument hold, shoulder rest setup, and body mechanics that prevent injury and allow for free, expressive playing.

Our approach
What makes lessons here different
How we teach
01
Patient, progressive instruction
String instruments take time to develop. We build the right habits from day one so technique grows naturally rather than having to be unlearned later.
02
One-on-one the whole time
Every lesson is private. Your instructor focuses entirely on your sound, posture, and progress.
03
Progress you can track
Lesson notes in the student portal after every session so you always know what to practice and why.
Why start strings early
—
Posture matters enormously
String playing requires correct body mechanics that are much easier to instill early. Private lessons catch and correct issues before they become lifelong habits.
—
The most expressive instruments
Violin, viola, and cello can produce an extraordinary range of tone, color, and emotion. The investment in technique opens up that expressive potential.
—
Great for all ages
We teach students as young as 5 through adult beginners picking up strings for the first time. It is never too early or too late.

Common questions
Before you sign up
Which string instruments do you teach?
We offer lessons on violin, viola, and cello. If you are interested in double bass, contact us and we can discuss availability.
How young can students start?
Violin and viola students can start as young as 5 with a fractional-size instrument. Cello students typically start around age 6-7. We love working with young beginners.
Do I need to own the instrument before starting?
No. We carry instruments in the store and can help you find the right size and setup. Starting on the correct size instrument is important for string players.
How important is daily practice?
Very. String instruments require consistent repetition to build muscle memory and intonation. Even 15-20 minutes a day makes a significant difference.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Get in touch with your instructor as early as possible and we will work with you.
Can adults learn violin or cello from scratch?
Yes, and many do. Progress may be slower than with young students, but adults can absolutely develop into capable, musical players with patient instruction.
