Mandolin lessons
Mandolin lessons
for every level.
One-on-one mandolin instruction for beginners through advanced players. Tremolo, chop chords, double stops, and the tunes that drive bluegrass, Celtic, and folk — learn the style that calls to you.
What we cover
Everything a mandolin player needs
Pick technique & tremolo
Clean alternate picking and the sustained tremolo that gives the mandolin its singing voice — the right-hand foundation behind everything you play.
Chop chords & rhythm
The percussive bluegrass chop and moveable chord shapes that let you drive a band's rhythm and lock in with the groove of a jam.
Double stops & melody
Playing melody with harmony underneath, plus the double-stop fills and licks that turn a simple tune into a full mandolin break.
Ear training
Learning to hear chord changes, melodies, and licks by ear so you can pick up tunes quickly and hold your own at a jam.
Bluegrass, Celtic & old-time tunes
The core repertoire across traditions — fiddle tunes, reels, jigs, and bluegrass standards that give your technique real musical context.
Music theory for mandolin
How chords, keys, and scales lay out on a fifths-tuned fingerboard so you understand what you are playing, not just memorizing patterns.

Why mandolin specifically
—
A bright, driving voice all its own
The mandolin's punchy, chiming tone cuts through any group. Whether chopping rhythm or taking a break, it is one of the most rewarding instruments to play in a band.
—
Tuned like a fiddle
The mandolin is tuned in fifths, exactly like a violin, so fiddle tunes and crossover skills transfer naturally in both directions.
—
Built for community music-making
Mandolin sits at the heart of bluegrass and Celtic jams. Learning it puts you in the middle of a living, welcoming musical tradition.

Common questions
Before you sign up
A-style or F-style mandolin?
They sound nearly identical — the difference is mostly the body shape and price. A-style instruments are a great, affordable place to start. We can help you choose.
Do I need to play guitar first?
Not at all. Plenty of students start fresh on mandolin. If you do play guitar or fiddle, some skills carry over, but it is a great first instrument on its own.
Do I need a mandolin before my first lesson?
No. Come in and talk to us first. We carry instruments in the store and can help you find the right setup without spending money on the wrong thing.
How old do students need to be?
We typically start mandolin students around age 8-10 when hand size is sufficient. Mandolin is a wonderful instrument for adults of any age.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Get in touch with your instructor as early as possible and we will work with you.
How do I get ready for a jam session?
That is one of the best reasons to take lessons. We will get you ready with the tune knowledge, chop chords, and jam etiquette to show up and contribute.
