Harmonica lessons
Harmonica lessons
for every level.
One-on-one harmonica instruction for beginners through advanced players. Clean single notes, soulful bends, and the blues, folk, and country licks that make the harp sing — learn the style that calls to you.
What we cover
Everything a harmonica player needs
Single notes & clean tone
The embouchure and breath control to isolate one clean note at a time — the essential first skill behind every melody and lick you will play.
Bending notes
The signature expressive sound of blues harp — learning to bend pitches down for that crying, vocal quality that defines the instrument.
Rhythm, chugging & tongue blocking
Train-rhythm chugging, tongue-blocking technique, and the percussive patterns that let one player sound like a whole rhythm section.
Ear training
Learning to hear melodies, riffs, and chord changes by ear so you can pick up tunes quickly and jam along with songs and other players.
Blues, folk & country licks
The core vocabulary of riffs, turnarounds, and solos across traditions that give your technique real musical context.
Positions & music theory
Understanding first position, second-position cross harp, and how keys work so you know how to pick the right harmonica for any song.

Why harmonica specifically
—
The most portable instrument there is
A harmonica fits in your pocket and goes everywhere. There is no easier instrument to keep close and practice anytime the mood strikes.
—
Affordable to start
A quality beginner harmonica costs very little, so you can start learning a deeply expressive instrument without a big investment.
—
Expressive and vocal-like
Few instruments are as soulful. With bending and breath control, the harmonica can cry, wail, and sing in a way that is uniquely human.

Common questions
Before you sign up
What harmonica should I buy?
A standard 10-hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C is the right starting point for nearly everyone. We carry them in the store and can point you to a good beginner model.
Diatonic or chromatic?
Most students start on a diatonic harp — it is the standard for blues, folk, and country. Chromatic harmonicas are used more in jazz and pop. We can help you decide.
Is bending hard to learn?
Bending takes practice, but it is very learnable with the right guidance. We break it down step by step so you build the technique without frustration.
How old do students need to be?
Harmonica needs no finger dexterity, so younger kids can start early — usually around age 7-8, once they can follow lesson instructions. It is wonderful for adults of any age.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Get in touch with your instructor as early as possible and we will work with you.
How do I get ready to jam?
That is one of the best reasons to take lessons. We will get you ready with cross-harp skills, lick vocabulary, and jam etiquette to show up and contribute.
